Salzwedel |
 Lorenzkirche
Als sich südlich der Burg und in ihrem Schutz - vermutlich
in der ersten Hälfte des 12. Jh. - die ersten Ansiedler
niederließen und so der älteste Stadtteil Salzwedels
entstand, errichteten sie vermutlich eine Saalkirche aus Findlingssteinen
oder vielleicht auch aus Holz. An der Stelle der romanischen
Kirche wurde um die Mitte des 13. Jh. das heutige Bauwerk als
dreischiffige Basilika mit einem Turm errichtet.
Die an dieser
Kirche vorhandene Formenvielfalt macht den besonderen Reiz des
Bauwerkes aus.

Church
of St Laurentius
When the first settlers established themselves to the south of
the castle and within its protective confines, (presumably in
the first half of the 12th century), thus founding the oldest
part of the town of Salzwedel, they probably built a hall church
from erratic blocks or possibly wood. On the site of the Romanesque
church the present building, a three-nave basilica with one tower,
was erected around the middle of the 13th century. The wealth
of different shapes, forms and figures gives the building its
special charm.
