 Moritzburg
mit Dom St. Peter und Paul
Die Moritzburg war ursprünglich die Burg der Bischöfe
von Zeitz-Naumburg. Einen Teil der im 10. Jh. gegründeten
Burg stellt der ehemalige Dom St. Peter und Paul dar. Die heute
turmlose, vierjochige, aus Sandsteinquadern bestehende Hallenkirche
ist dreischiffig mit Querhaus und gestrecktem Chor. Der älteste
romanische Teil befindet sich unter dem Chor. Die aus der 1.
Hälfte des 11. Jh. stammende dreischiffige, vierjochige
Hallenkrypta besitzt ein scharfgratiges Kreuzgewölbe zwischen
kräftigen Gurten und Säulen mit kämpferlosen Kapitellen.

Castle with Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul
Moritzburg Castle was originally the palace of the bishops of
Zeitz and Naumburg. The former Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul
forms part of the castle which was founded in the 10th century.
The present tower-less, four-bay hall church, made of sandstone
ashlars, has three naves, together with a cross aisle and an
elongated choir. The oldest Romanesque section is situated under
the choir. The three-nave, four-bay hall crypt, which dates back
to the 11th century, has a groin vault spanning robust main arches
and columns, and capitals without imposts.
